Classic Cocktails: The "Ramos Fizz" or the "Ramos Gin Fizz" recipe and history of a great vintage cocktail drink.
"A popular Mardi Gras drink threw the years."
The Ramos Fizz is one of the most popular style of drinks labeled as a fizz cocktail. Fizzes are the close cousin to sour drinks. To be a true Fizz drink it must contain acidic juice like lime or lemon and carbonated soda water.
There is a version of this drink that dates back to 1887, when it was published in the bartenders guide as a then spelled "Fiz". The Ramos Fizz, was created by the famous bartender Hency Ramos. He was famous for serving these wonderful cocktails at Mardi Gras.

This one takes some time to prep and to make, but the time involved is well worth it to experience one of the best cocktails of days gone by. The secret to a good fizz drink is in the shake. To make a really good gin fizz, you gotta shake that shaker for at least a minute. I have seen top bartenders shake this drink for over 3 minutes before.
